The maritime boundary between Iceland and Greenland was established in 1997 by a bilateral agreement. It delimited overlapping maritime claims in the North Atlantic Ocean largely by reliance on the equidistance methodology. In 2013, Denmark and Iceland agreed to further delimit their overlapping outer continental shelf entitlements, which added an additional 345 nautical miles to their original maritime delimitation. In total, the combined maritime boundary now spans 940 nautical miles.
