The Guinea–Mali boundary extends in a generally northwest-to-southeast direction for 1155 km, mainly along rivers. The border was established in a series of French colonial documents and has not changed since Guinea and Mali gained independence. There are no disputes regarding the border, though periodic violence erupts between border communities over access to land and natural resources.
