New Zealand (Tokelau)–United States of America (American Samoa)
In 1980, the maritime boundary between American Samoa and Tokelau was established, traversing east to west and spanning 318 nautical miles in the central South Pacific Ocean. American Samoa, a territory of the United States, and Tokelau, a non-self-governing island of New Zealand, agreed on the boundary as a delimitation line for all purposes. The boundary is composed of a starting point, terminal point and six interior turning points. The principle of equidistance was used in constructing the line, utilizing American Samoa’s Swains Island as a control point for the United States, and Tokelau’s atolls of Fakaofo and Nukunonu as controlling points for New Zealand.
