Canada–Denmark Land & Maritime Boundary Agreement
In June 2022, Canada and Denmark, on behalf of Greenland, signed a new border agreement which has delimited an extended continental shelf boundary in the south and completed the maritime boundary in the north.
China Straight Baseline Claim
On 4 March 2024, China deposited a list of coordinates with the United Nations establishing straight baselines in the Gulf of Tonkin adding an additional 18,022 square kilometers of internal waters.
Israel Gas Exploration Licensing in Palestinian-claimed Waters
In October 2023, Israel awarded offshore exploration blocks to Eni, Dana Petroleum and Ratio that overlap maritime areas claimed by Palestine. These recent awards have taken place in Zone G, which is shaded in light green below.
Additional Boundary Updates
Progress on the United Nations “High Seas Treaty” was made as the final version of the text was opened for signature to UN member States and now awaits ratification by at least 60 States. Updates in diplomatic recognition of Somaliland and maritime negotiations between Cambodia and Thailand over their maritime boundary may also resume.
